About Us
The Palace Saloon | Florida’s Oldest Bar in Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island ~ The Palace Saloon opened in 1903 in downtown Fernandina Beach and is widely recognized as Florida’s oldest continuously operating bar. Built during Amelia Island’s boom years as a bustling port town, the Palace quickly became a gathering place for sailors, railroad workers, shrimpers, and locals swapping stories over whiskey and beer. When Prohibition hit in the 1920s, the bar famously stayed open by serving alcohol “for medicinal purposes,” helping it survive when many others shut their doors for good. More than a century later, The Palace Saloon remains a living piece of Amelia Island history—still pouring drinks, hosting live music, and preserving the old Florida character that made it legendary in the first place.
