Amelia Island has 13 genuinely different places to sleep, and the gap between the Ritz-Carlton at $480/night and the Ocean Coast Hotel at $109 is real. We live 20 minutes from the island and have walked the beach access of every property on this list. This guide groups them by what kind of trip you're actually planning, with current 2026 rates and honest takes on each.

How to choose where to stay on Amelia Island

The island is only 13 miles long. "Location" matters less than you'd think — almost everything is within a 20-minute drive. What matters more:

  1. Beach access type. Direct (sand in 30 seconds) vs. across-the-street (you cross A1A) vs. resort shuttle (some properties run them). This changes the feel of your trip.
  2. On-site dining. The Ritz has 4 restaurants. The Ocean Coast has none. If you don't have a car, on-site dining matters.
  3. Pools. Ocean water is fine in summer, cold November–March. Heated pools extend your beach season.
  4. Family policy. Some properties (Elizabeth Pointe, Addison on Amelia) are 16+ or adults-preferred. Others (Residence Inn, Omni) cater hard to kids.

The 13 hotels below are grouped by the experience you're after.

Luxury: $400+ per night

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

Price: $480–$890/night (summer peak), $359–$520 (shoulder) Address: 4750 Amelia Island Pkwy Beach: Direct Pools: 1 oceanfront heated, 1 kids Pet fee: $250 non-refundable

The Ritz sits on the south end of the island with a quarter-mile of private beach. Rooms are 460 sq ft minimum, marble baths, balconies facing the ocean or the marsh. Service is what you'd expect — twice-daily housekeeping, turndown, beach attendants setting up umbrellas before you ask.

Best for: Families who want everything handled, couples on a special trip, anyone who values consistency over surprise.

Skip if: You want a local/quirky feel. The Ritz is the Ritz anywhere.

The Addison on Amelia Island

Price: $425–$695/night Address: 2263 S 14th St, Fernandina Beach Beach: Across A1A (1 min walk) Pools: 1 outdoor Pet fee: $75 per stay

The Addison is a 14-room boutique in the historic district. Adults-only (16+). Each room has a private balcony, jetted tub, fireplace. No kids, no pool scene, no crowds. It's where you stay when you want quiet.

Best for: Honeymoons, anniversaries, anyone without children.

Skip if: You want beach chairs and a pool bar. The Addison is a B&B, not a resort.

Elizabeth Pointe Lodge

Price: $329–$589/night Address: 98 S Fletcher Ave, Fernandina Beach Beach: Direct Pools: None Pet fee: $50 per night

25-room oceanfront lodge on the north end. Adults-preferred. Big wraparound porches, hammocks, rocking chairs, a real fireplace in the lobby. Breakfast on the porch with ocean view. No TVs in some rooms (yes, that's a feature).

Best for: Couples who want a beach house vibe, not a hotel vibe.

Skip if: You need a pool or you want to walk to restaurants for dinner.

Upscale resorts: $200–$400 per night

Omni Oceanside Resort

Price: $239–$489/night (summer) Address: 39 Beach Lagoon Rd Beach: Direct Pools: 3 (main oceanfront heated, family, adult) Pet fee: $150 per stay

The Omni is the only true full-service resort besides the Ritz. 402 rooms, three pools, a kids' program in summer, and the best oceanfront deck on the island. Pools were renovated in 2024 and the new adult pool is genuinely good.

Best for: Families who want resort amenities at 50% the Ritz price.

Skip if: You want a small, intimate property. The Omni is a 400-room operation.

Omni Amelia Island Resort (former Amelia Island Plantation)

Price: $299–$549/night Address: 6800 First Coast Hwy Beach: Direct (1.5 miles of beach) Pools: Multiple, including adults-only and family Pet fee: $150

The Plantation is a 1,350-acre resort community on the south end. The Omni property is the main resort within it — separate villas and rental homes also exist inside the plantation. This is the most "resort-y" option: 23 tennis courts, 4 golf courses, a nature center, beach horseback riding, 8 restaurants. It's a destination unto itself.

Best for: Golf trips, tennis, multi-generational families.

Skip if: You want to walk to Fernandina. The Plantation is 20 minutes from downtown.

Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island

Price: $189–$329/night Address: 2549 Sadler Rd Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 outdoor heated Pet fee: $75

Newer build (2022), clean, basic, reliable. Suite-style rooms with sleeper sofas. Best Hampton we've stayed at — it's the one chain hotel on the island we actually recommend.

Best for: Road trippers who want Hilton points and a clean room.

Skip if: You want character.

Mid-range: $150–$250 per night

Residence Inn Amelia Island

Price: $179–$289/night Address: 2301 Sadler Rd Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 outdoor Pet fee: $100

Best for: Families of 4+, week-long stays, anyone watching money.

Skip if: You want a luxury feel. This is a Marriott Residence Inn — clean, no frills.

Courtyard Amelia Island

Price: $159–$259/night Address: 2700 Atlantic Ave Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 outdoor Pet fee: $75

Solid mid-range, walking distance to Main Beach and 4–5 restaurants. No full kitchen. Good for couples and business travelers.

Best for: Couples, short stays.

Amelia Hotel at the Beach

Price: $149–$239/night Address: 1997 S Fletcher Ave Beach: Direct (small oceanfront deck) Pools: 1 small outdoor Pet fee: None (small pets, $25/night)

Older property, recently renovated. Direct oceanfront at the price of a mid-range. The catch: rooms are small (200–300 sq ft), no balcony on most.

Best for: Couples on a budget who still want ocean view.

Skip if: You want a big room.

Beachside Motel

Price: $119–$189/night Address: 3172 S Fletcher Ave Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 small Pet fee: $20

A 20-room locally-owned motel. Clean, no frills, no surprises. Owners are on-site. It's a bed near the beach, nothing more.

Best for: Budget travelers, surfers, anyone who'll be out all day.

Skip if: You want amenities.

Budget: under $150 per night

Ocean Coast Hotel at the Beach

Price: $109–$179/night Address: 2707 N Fletcher Ave Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 outdoor Pet fee: None

The cheapest direct-access option on the island. Renovated in 2023, decent reviews, no surprises. No elevator (3 stories), no ocean view, no beach service.

Best for: Anyone watching money hard, one-night stops, road trip base.

Skip if: You want a property with character or service.

Days Inn by Wyndham

Price: $99–$149/night Address: 2707 N Fletcher Ave (adjacent to Ocean Coast) Beach: Across A1A Pools: 1 outdoor shared Pet fee: $20

The bare-bones option. Same beach access as Ocean Coast but a step down in room quality. If your trip is "drive all day, sleep, drive all day" — this works.

Best for: Travelers who only sleep at hotels.

Skip if: You want a memorable stay.

Budget Inn Amelia Island

Price: $89–$129/night Address: 1843 S 8th St (inland) Beach: 5-min drive Pools: 1 outdoor Pet fee: None

Old-school motor court, 3 minutes from the island, no beach access. The cheapest place that has a bed and a key. Most of the clientele are workers on Amelia Island projects.

Best for: Anyone who'll be in Fernandina, not on the sand.

Skip if: You're coming for the beach.

FAQs

Where should I stay in Amelia Island for the first time?

Omni Oceanside Resort. Direct beach, multiple pools, on-site dining, walkable to Main Beach, kid-friendly. If budget allows, the Ritz-Carlton. If you want quiet, Elizabeth Pointe Lodge.

Is Amelia Island walkable from the hotels?

Mostly no. The Ritz is somewhat walkable within its own grounds, but most properties require a car to get to restaurants and activities. The exception: the few properties near Main Beach (Hampton, Courtyard, Amelia Hotel) can walk to 4–5 restaurants and Main Beach.

What is the best month to visit Amelia Island?

April and October. Warm enough for the beach (78–82°F), low humidity, no hurricane risk, fewer crowds than summer. May is also good but Shrimp Festival weekend (early May) prices spike.

Is the Ritz-Carlton worth it on Amelia Island?

If you've stayed at Ritz-Carlton properties before, you know exactly what you're getting and whether it's worth it for you. If you haven't, the short version: yes, for special occasions, no for regular trips when the Omni gives you 80% of the experience for half the price.

Are there all-inclusive resorts on Amelia Island?

No. All major Amelia Island hotels are European plan (room only). You can add breakfast packages at most properties, but no all-inclusive option exists on the island.

Can I stay in Fernandina Beach instead?

Yes, and it's actually a great option. The historic district has B&Bs (Addison, Elizabeth Pointe), inns, and Airbnb apartments. You trade direct beach access for walkable dining, bars, the marina, and a more local feel. Most properties are a 5–10 minute drive to the beach.
